Citi Collaborates with Togo’s Ministry of Investment Promotion to Launch City Builder® by Citi to Attract Capital and Boost investment into the Republic of Togo

New York / Lomé – Citi and the Republic of Togo’s Ministry of Investment Promotion  announced the launch of City Builder® in Togo, a free, data-driven platform that combines key social metrics with development opportunities to help investors make socially impactful investments in emerging economies. By providing local and foreign investors with an easy-to-use platform that visualizes regions in Togo, the Ministry hopes to attract capital to build a more resilient, sustainable and connected country.

City Builder® by Citi integrates data and leverages visualization tools to provide an overarching view of investment opportunities within a country. The goal of the City Builder platform is to bring greater transparency to key metrics, such as demographics, education, land usage, and amenities to drive place-based investments which support local economic development.

Citi is excited to collaborate with the MPI to expand City Builder to Togo, as the government of Togo seeks to expand international awareness of the unique opportunities available in the country. By making key social data more transparent and accessible, the MPI hopes to encourage foreign investors, family offices, entrepreneurs, developers, and non-profit organizations find investment opportunities. Targeted investment sectors include agriculture, aquaculture, transport, shipping, sport, and water and waste management. The projects are also aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities for communities.

The Minister of Investment Promotion for the Republic of Togo, Ms Rose Kayi Mivedor, said: ” City Builder is in line with Togo’s goals to strengthen the attractiveness of the country to investors. This tool, which adds to the digital ecosystem of the Investment Promotion and Free Zone Agency, will improve the visibility of the many assets and investment opportunities offered by Togo, to a wide international audience.”

Papa Sall, Citi CEO for West and Central Africa, observed: “The expansion of City Builder into Togo is an important new chapter in the Citi Africa franchise, and represents the innovative use of digital technology in supporting economic development in the region.”

Neel Patel, head of the team that built City Builder in Togo, added: “We launched City Builder with the goal of increasing transparency and access to information in order to help drive impact investing in local economies. This mission is now more important than ever as countries are rebuilding in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
